under 12s etp inter league v Kilkenny
- Dec 19,2017
Our under 12s squad travelled to the incredible facility at Evergreen FC in Kilkenny City today to face a difficult opponent in the Kilkenny League.Kilkenny had beaten Wicklow away so were level on points with us heading into today's game. We knew it would be a very tough game.
Midlands started the better and should've been a goal up after 2 minutes when Matthew Thornton drove through the defence only for the keeper to make a fine save down to his left. We pressed high and probed the defence time and again to no avail so it took something special to break the deadline. And Oisin Lawlors goal was just that. The ball was won by Jacko Gowran in midfield and fed Ryan Kelly who's shot dropped to Oisin and before anyone could blink the ball was dispatched to the bottom corner. A brilliant goal from outside the box off his weaker foot.No more than we deserved. We should've added to it but great blocks and saves kept us at bay.The second seemed like it would never come but 10 mins later a quick free put Conor Bracken into space who fed the ball back to James Cullen and his pinpoint cross was powered home by Calum Lynch. 2-0.The second half was a different affair and Kilkenny had more of the ball so our defensive side of the game was well tested. Although Peter Doyle wasn't called upon too often we were pushed back and Kilkenny got a goal back after a mix up. The match turned into a midfield battle and no other chances came either sides way.Final Score: MSL 2 Kilkenny 1
Many thanks to Kilkenny League for there hospitality today and we wish you well for the remainder of the campaign. Thanks to all our parents for their support today and for driving down to the match.
Refs Man of The Match: Matthew Thornton.
